My Last Chalkboard For Now. A Chalkboard Frame

I need to step away from the paint because I am chalkboarding everything in sight.  I hung my framed chalkboard that I showed you here in my kitchen area to bring in more black to tie in with the black hutch (here).  It wasn’t quite long enough to fill in the space  so I added a chalkboard frame to hang underneath it. 

360 Degree Photo Party Ideas

This should be an easy challenge.  All you do is find a place, any place, and take pics all around you.  My place I picked was my new rope swing.

It was pretty chilly so I grabbed a blanket, my camera and my dog and took  photos all around the yard. 

We will start with the birdbath that you see in the photo above and work our way around going clockwise.  I used a zoom lens.

These fuzzy caterpillar looking things drop off of our big tree for almost 2 weeks.  They drive me crazy.

This patch of grass dies every year.  It also drives me crazy.  I planted a bush that never grows by the bunny.  I think I need to get a better growing bush to soften up that brick area. 

 

There is a little nest in the red bird house.  The photo of the daddy bird below was taken the other day.

My sweet neighbor who I love had this monstrosity of a shed built a couple of years ago.  We call it the Taj Mahal.

Happy Easter and Another Chalkboard Project

I hope you all have a blessed and happy Easter.  My husband is working today so it is just me and my son today. 

I wanted to share a chalkboard project with you.  I needed a long and skinny frame so I searched Goodwill and found the size I needed.  I stopped at Lowes and had a think piece of wood cut to fit the frame. 

Here’s what I started with.

I removed the glass and print and painted the frame.  I am experimenting with the Annie Sloan chalk paint so that is what I used in Versailles green.  I used a clear wax and a dark brown wax after I painted and distressed the frame.

I wanted the board to be magnetic so I sprayed 5 coats of magnetic spray paint on the board and it still doesn’t work as well as it should after all that paint!  When it was dry I rolled on some chalkboard paint. (not chalk paint-confusing huh?)  I did 3 coats.  For some reason it didn’t turn out as smooth as I expected it to with a roller.  I had to sand it a bit and it is still bumpier than I would like it to be.  Maybe it was my cheap $1 store roller.

I used a staple gun to hold the wooden board inside the frame and this is what it looks like. 

In honor of Easter and the Resurrection I wrote a fitting Bible verse on it.

Book Painted With Chalkboard Paint

I was working on another chalkboard project when an idea popped into my head.  Last fall I spray painted some books because I was going for a monotone look.  You can see that post here.  I decided to give chalkboard spray paint a try. I painted one of my previously painted books. 

I gave it 2 coats of paint.  3 would be even better, but I ran out of paint.  I conditioned the book by rubbing the chalk all over it and wiping it off and then I wrote “Love” on the side because I love when ideas work.

Don’t ya just “love” it?

My Son’s Cooking Homework

My son is taking a class in middle school that we use to call Home Economics.  He had to sew a snuggie.  It took him 3 times to get the arms sewn on the outside instead of the inside of the snuggie.  Poor guy. 

Now that he has mastered the snuggie, he has progressed to cooking.  He informed me he had to cook tonight.  This kid can hardly open a can of soup so I was really kind of concerned.  I decided to let him do it all by himself and not help.  I knew it was the best way for him to learn and I don’t like to cook.  I did show up for the photo shoot.  He says I will take a pic of anything.  I think he’s right. 

I will just show him in action with a photo story.

Excitement that it looks like it is suppose to look.  Must have a tv on because it helps the concentration right?

Rolling the crust flat on wax paper and he used water to hold the paper down just like his teacher taught him. 

Had to borrow the rolling pin from my rolling pin wall décor (here) because I don’t cook so I don’t have a modern rolling pin.  He washed off the dust and it worked just fine.

The crust had to be cut into small pieces and get a coating of butter and cinnamon sugar.

Bake for 30 minutes.

And it’s done.

Not bad for a kid that can hardly open a soup can and has a mom that only uses rolling pins as home décor huh?
