Vintage Photo Challenge-Printer’s Block Tray

I love Kim Klassen Café’s blog and all of her free textures you can use in photoshop and photoshop elements.  On Tuesday’s she challenges her readers to use one of her textures and join her Tuesday Texture Linky Party.

I really love my vintage printer’s block tray and the few blocks that I own.  I thought it was perfect for the party.

I added 2 of her textures and I think they may be some of my favorites.

If you have never experimented with textures you should.  They are so fun and artistic.

It’s The Simple Things Like Dandelions

We had fabulous weather this weekend.  No wind and the low 70s which is cooler than usual for this time of the year, but it felt so good.  We spent a lot of time outside and today while taking our dog for a walk we noticed a large patch of dandelions in an alley.  My dog likes to walk in the alleys and so do we.

Some are paved and some aren’t.  We like the unpaved ones.  It makes us feel like we are walking along a trail.

I even got a little sun flare action.

I found a row of dandelions that I thought were beautiful especially with the sun shining on them.

I took some pics of my son blowing the seeds into the air.

I put my camera on the ground and shot up as best I could.  It was a blind shot because I couldn’t see in the view finder so I was glad I got a few neat photos of the dandelions.

Taking pics makes me happy.  Did you do anything that makes you happy this weekend?

Stenciled Table and Stool

A friend of mine painted a table black and wanted me to add a harlequin pattern to the top.  She also brought over a friend’s stool who wanted a #7 on it.

At first I wasn’t too sure I liked the pattern on the table, but I think it has grown on me.  What do you think?

Here they are ready for their paint job.

Wooden Owl with a Hoot

My husband’s aunt gave my son the cutest wooden owl.  I am “borrowing” it to go with my bird in my entertainment center.

This cute little owl hoots when you blow in the slot on top of his head.

Sun Challenge Winner

The sun photos were absolutely amazing and I am so thankful to those that linked up.  I am judging the sun party and I feel like one of the judges that have to let an American Idol go home.  I think they are all so good, but there was something very magical about Sarah @ Faded Country’s photos.

fc

She had great photos of sun flare and tips on how to achieve it.  I also liked the contrast of the cold snow with the glowing sun.

Congrats Sarah.  Here’s the button if you want it.

Tracy’s Trinkets and Treasures

Next month’s a nature photo party.  If you find it in nature then take a pic of it.  I will be looking for originality.  I will be doing a reminder post the week before the party.

Thank you to all of my readers and participants.  You make my day.

Sunset Sunrise and Sun Flare Photo Party

The sun is getting warmer and the nights longer so it’s a great time to have a party that’s all about the sun.  I hope you all had fun getting some great shots and trying to get a sun flare shot.

I took some engagement photos and family photos for one of my patients Saturday.  It was the first time to take engagement pics and they turned out well.  I was relieved.  I still get so nervous.  Anyway, the bride to be has 2 girls and the groom to be has 2 boys.  I tried to take a pic of them and get a sun flare.  It kinda worked.

IMG_9736edit

Can you see the little bit of flare in the lower left hand corner?  Want to hear something creepy?  Sure you do.  I was suppose to take their photos at 1pm and I talked them into 7:30 because the sun wouldn’t be so harsh.  I am glad I did.  They pulled a body from the lake in the park where we took pics at 1:37pm that day.  Sad smile

Ok onto happier things.  I don’t have any sunrise pics.  I practiced the sun flare so much I didn’t have time to take new sunset pics, but I have 2 to share.

I took this one in March.  There are not many natural trees in this area, but this is near a river bed (that is mostly dry) and the Cottonwood trees grow well here.

This sunset was from our summer vacation last year in Siesta Key, FL.

It was over casted all week and the last night I was finally able to get some sunset photos.  I miss walking along that beach.

Remember the photo parties will be once a month.  Next month’s challenge is nature.  It can be a plant, animal, water, rocks, etc.

My Version Of A Beachy Mantel

I mentioned that I don’t often change my mantel, but blogging is changing all of that.  I made a fun sign out of a picket fence for the mantel that you can read about here

IMG_9663

I used it for the centerpiece for my version of a beachy mantel.  I would love for my version to be in beautiful soothing colors of whites and blues, but that just doesn’t go with my existing décor.  I always tend to go towards muted colors in the same tone.  I don’t know if it’s my style or how I play it safe.

I use the same candlesticks year around on my mantel.  I like them and don’t want to permanently change them, but they needed to go with my new beachy look.  To fix my issue I tied twine and upholstery cording around them.

IMG_9602

I used some mason jars and tied fish net onto them and filled them with sand, a seashell and a candle.

I found a pretty boat at TJ Maxx.  It’s the culprit that got my beachy wheels spinning.

I also found a sea fan and a few starfish there as well.
