Pine Cone Frame

IMG_3566

It’s done.  It only took 3 blisters and tons of pine cones to make my nature frame.  It is going to be part of my fall mantel decor.  This will be the first time I have changed my mantel other than for Christmas in forever.

I started out with a gold frame that I painted dark brown and I glued small pine cones I bought from Hobby Lobby all over the frame.

I used one large bag and one small bag of pine cones.  I  had some left over.  The small bag had smaller pine cones in it so it was good to have a mixture to fill in gaps.

The great thing about a pine cone frame is it can go from fall to winter.  It was worth the blisters and the feeling of being covered in spider webs when hot glue strings were all over me.

Here’s a few more views.

It is hard to place things level on a stone fireplace.  I had to use an empty tea light container on one end of the frame to keep it level in case you are wondering why there is a round clear plastic thing on the mantel.

If the rest of the mantel turns out like I hope then I will be showing it to you later.

By the way we had two days of 70 degree weather this week.  It was so nice!

Natural Embellishments and A Winner

Nature makes me happy.  I don’t care if it is artificial or real.  If it looks like it came from outside then I smile.  Here’s a few ways that a touch of nature can make something you love look even better.

I bought these candles with the little acorns already on them, but I know anyone that reads blogs about decorating could figure out how to make something similar or better.

I found another use for a book and one of my new rusty things.  : )

IMG_3514

I added ribbon and some cute potpourri pieces to these frames.

I have another idea I am going to try this weekend that involves nature and a frame.  I hope it works and then I will share it with you.

Now for the winner of the bracelet.

Comment #35   from Sandy.  I don’t believe she has a blog.  I couldn’t find one on her profile.  Congrats Sandy.  I will email you for your address.

Thanks to all that entered.

Plates Are Hung

I got the plates hung today.  I was trying to make it very complicated with all kinds of math and numbers to get the right spacing.  Finally I decided to hang one in the middle and measure out evenly on each side to hang the other two.  It worked like a charm.  I will take a better photo when I get those darn darling curtains finished.

My 2nd attempt at a new rug came in today.   This one might get to live here.   The first one didn’t even get to have his picture taken.

The first one I bought at CSN.  I must say they have awesome customer service even when returning items.   I really wanted it to work but it just blended into the floor.  This one I got at Overstock.com

Blog Makeover

I want to thank Kim at seven thirty three for doing my blog design.  I just love it.  I wanted a timeless and aged look that was pretty yet simple.  I think she got it just right.  The communication was wonderful and she graciously answered all of my questions and concerns.  I contacted her on Saturday afternoon about the change and by Monday morning my blog was beautifully changed.

Thinking of making a blog design change or you just need a button?  Take a look at Kim’s site by clicking on her button below.

I hope you like the changes as much as I do.

An another note.  You can certainly tell school has started at our house.

Possible Dining Area Wall Art

IMG_3495

Since I have been spending a lot of time looking at my bay window I have noticed that the small wall area above it is

B-O-R-I-N-G.

IMG_3488

I still don’t have the curtains made but I did work on one possibility for the wall.  I think they turned out pretty dang cute.

IMG_3492

IMG_3494

I used rub on letters on the plates.

IMG_3500

Windex and elbow grease will remove them in the future when if I change my mind.

I didn’t hang them yet because I need to let these things dry over night.

IMG_3496

I had other plans but I really needed a Cricut to make it work.  I am so asking for one for Christmas.

This was my original idea inspired by the movie title.

IMG_3502

I used my chalk marker to write on the plate to show you the idea.

IMG_3503

I am happy with the E A T so all is well.

UPDATE:  You can see the plates on the wall here.

First Day of 7th Grade

Not much happened after work today.  I picked my son up after  and he had a list of supplies the teachers required.  This caused a mad rush to Walmart to join all the other frazzled parents of school children.  Then there is always the stack of papers to be signed.  After taking care of all of my school homework, I have time to share a few first day of school photos.  We (usually my  husband because I have to be at work before 7am) always take the photos on the front porch bench and by the front door.  This way we can monitor how much he has grown every year by using the  mailbox and the door window as a marker.

If I wasn’t so tired I would dig up older photos to show you but I am beat.

Here are this years shots.

IMG_3486

IMG_3485 I bought him new shoes and new clothes and he wore his old sandals and old clothes.  Oh well.  Does it really matter?  Nope.

Here are a few nonrelated  things I wanted to tell you.

Don’t forget to enter the bracelet giveaway.

I hope you like the new blog design.  I will be posting about it soon.

My wish for fall came true.  It is suppose to be a high of 71 tomorrow after high 90s all last week.

I have thought about doing a linky party on Tuesdays so I have a button for it.  I just don’t know how to do a linky party.  Does anyone have any advice?

Sneak Peak

Don’t ya just hate suspense?  I do too.  That’s why I can’t believe I am doing this.

I am doing a sneak peak.  I managed to get one window treatment panel completed and I have the other 3 ready to sew.  I am going to try and get them finished this week during the evenings when I get home from work.  School starts tomorrow so I may be being too hopeful, but I thought if I told you this then it might actually happen.  So that is why I am doing a sneak peak.

Here it is.

IMG_3479

The other reason for this post is to tell you my blog will be under construction tomorrow and it will be wonky throughout the day.

I hope you like the new change.  Let me know.
