The curtains are done! I am lucky enough to know how to sew, but I just barely get by. It is really hard for me to sew duplicates of something because measurements have to be the same. My yard stick and sewing machine are put away and I am so glad. I am still debating on painting (table and chairs). I am just going to sit on it for a bit until I am ready and feel committed to it.
Here is the before shot of the dining area.
In mid July Miss Mustard Seed gave me some tips after I asked her opinion on some ideas to improve the area. She suggested changing the window treatments because the valances didn’t go with the space due to the size and that my rug was too small. I loved my old rug, but it was too small. So I searched and searched for a new one at a good price. I also knew I wanted a bench to camouflage some of the oak wall area under the bay window.
Are you ready to see the changes?
Here is a shot of my pillows (see more here) and my bench (go here).

I got better photos at night for some reason.
The red toppers can be removed.
My black and tan check print was less than $2 a yard. I noticed Ballards has a black check patterned curtain in their catalog right now.
If you are thinking of making window treatments then you should visit Sonya at Beyond the Screen Door. Her blog confirmed my choice for the black checked panels. She is so talented and has a ton of window treatment ideas. Go here to see them.
Well I am really glad to get these done and off my HUGE list. I worked all labor day weekend finishing them so I could have a post ready for Donna’s at Funky Junk Interiors Gitter Done. It only took me almost 2 months to Gitter Done.
I hope you like the changes.
Tracy

Hi Tracy, I'm visiting from FJ's Gitter Done link up.
ReplyDeleteI just love what you did with your kitchen!! I have to ask: Where did you get your fabric from? I have redone our bedroom and introduced red. Now I'm thinking about making a quilt and was wanting to add a little black. I think the black checked fabric would be perfect!
I hope you found another spot for that lovely round rooster rug. I do see that it was too small, it I loved it!
I think I'll check out some more of your blog :0)

ReplyDeleteThis looks great:) I think I was most happy to see that someone uses a yard stick when they sew too! Ha! I always felt so "old school" by not having a fancy sewing ruler and cutting mat:)
ReplyDeleteWow, it all looks great! I love those curtains! I sew just enough to get by too and somehow, I always seem to get my measurements almost just right. The differences are never enough that anyone could tell. :-)
