Glaze & Textured Stencil Concrete Planter

Back in April I made a planter using concrete and some plastic containers.  You can see that post here.  I decided to see what it would look like using my textured stencils I mentioned here and adding glaze to it.

I should have blended my brush stokes a little better, it is really noticeable in the pic.

But it was fun to see if the stencil would work and how much the glaze would change the gray concrete.  Here’s a before pic to see the difference.

I am thinking it would work on clay pots too.

I love ending posts with funny dog photos.  Here’s one I too while trying out my Gary Fong Light Diffuser.

The Scary Place

There’s a couple of old warehouses on the edge of town, however, it is very close to a restaurant and hotel.

IMG_0330-2 copy

I have been wanting to check it out for a possible photo shoot place.  I know other photographers have used it.

So I decided even though it was possibly I might find a vagrant or two I was going to check it out and I drug my 14 year old with me to use a model to check the lighting.

The back warehouse has lots of light and isn’t as gross, dirty and scary as the front warehouse.  But the front warehouse looks so cool with it’s busted out walls and ceilings with light shining through.

See all that bird poop on the floor?  There are layers of it on the edges of the walls.  We will probably get some kind of bird flu now.

I liked this side of the wall too.

What I didn’t other than the bird poop was the broken mirror with candles all around.

This was near the pentagram.

And a mattress.

I got a few more pics.

Then we left without being sacrificed or anything.

We drove away from the warehouse with the sun shining and feeling a little braver and maybe a little stupid too for going in there.

Project 52 Week 23 Water

There are so many photos I would love to take for this challenge, but due to time I had to work with what I could at home.  I turned my sprinklers on in the morning light and captured this photo.

I loved how the sun was peaking through the tree.

Last night I tried to get my  husband to pour water onto the flower bed while I took a photo.  He was hungry and not in the mood so I had to work fast and didn’t really get what I was going for.  He was not enjoying taking direction on where to hold the watering can while his stomach was growling.   Hmmm imagine that.

I would love to have a photo of an ocean or a lake, but when you live in the Texas panhandle that just doesn’t happen.

A NEW Canon Rebel Is Coming to Town…the T4i

Have you been thinking about getting an entry level DSLR camera?  Well if you have been holding off and you are ready to take the plunge you should consider Canon’s newest Rebel.  The T4i is available for pre-order.  I was notified by B&H Photo online about the new camera.

You can buy the body only.  (Click on photos below to take you to the site so you can view the price. )

Or you can get the camera that comes with the 18-135mm lens.

canon2

Be careful though.  You might get a camera addiction like me.  I just got my new Canon 5d Mark ii last night.  I have been playing with it a little, I haven’t had much time yet to really test it.  I did get a good image of my son

and a fun pic of my dogs after their appt at the vet today.  It was time for shots.

I added a texture to the above pic for fun.

I hope you have a great weekend.

A Sign For A Nursery

One of my coworker’s daughter is in the process of adopting a baby.  She has had him in her care for a couple of months and he is almost 6 months old now and such a cutie.  I didn’t make it to the baby shower today, but I made her a gift I will give to her mom at work on Monday.

I used my Cricut to make the stencil I used on my sign.  I like to use adhesive to make the stencil stick while I paint on top of it.

IMG_0414 copy

I painted a 12x12 piece of plywood dark gray and then used a light gray for the words.

IMG_0416 copy

I think it turned out pretty cute.  His room colors are gray and green.  I wasn’t sure how to match the green so I just used grays.

IMG_0420 copy2

I used part of a verse from James 1:17.

IMG_0438 copy2 copy

I do think this baby is a perfect gift for them.  She has wanted a baby for a long time.

IMG_0436 copy2

I hope she likes it and it goes well in the nursery.

IMG_0440 copy2 copy

I used a saw tooth hanger that is just hammered into the wood.  I love them.

IMG_0441 copy

So now she can hang it if she wants to.  Do you like to make gifts or do you prefer to buy them?  I love when I am able to make something special for someone.  I wish I felt like doing it more often.

New Camera and Strap are Headed to My House

My camera hobby has gotten out of hand.  It’s like a gambling addiction.  If I just bought one more lottery ticket kind of seems like if I could just have this camera or lens.  I still love my Canon Rebel T1i and the used Canon 50D I bought last year.  I wanted a full frame Canon.  The 5D Mark iii just came out, but it is too pricey for me so I am going with the Canon 5D Mark ii.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital Camera (Body Only)

I like to order from BH Photo.  I think they have great customer service and prices.  I did play with one a couple of months ago at Best Buy.  The controls seem pretty much like my 50D so that will make things easy.

I also ordered a Black Rapid camera strap.  It makes carrying and using your camera easier.  I am going to take pics for my friends sister’s wedding reception this summer and thought it would be helpful.  I ordered the classic strap.

I will let you know if I think it is worth buying after I try it out.

I should be experimenting by next weekend.  I can’t wait.  I hope my first family photo I get to take with my new camera is of my friend since the 2nd grade (about 35 years ago) and al of her family.  The doctor is 99% sure her melanoma has metastasized.  We will know more in a week or so.  Metastasized melanoma is not a good thing and difficult to treat.  Her dad was just diagnosed a few days later with colon cancer as well.  I grew up with this family and they mean the world to me.  Please pray for them.  Thank you.

Caromal Colour Paint by Country Living

Remember that paint I mentioned I would use if I were to paint my kitchen cabinets?  It’s called Caromal Colour Paint.  The paint works as a primer, paint and sealer all in one.  How cool is that?  The cabinet or furniture has to be clean and free of wax.

Click on the above image from the Caromal Colour website to get more information and to see before and afters.

There is a blog that is very helpful as well and I believe you get a discount if you order from her.

Her name is Patty @ Fabulous Finishes

There is quite a bit of information to read and different paint methods that are possible.  There is one that is textured and I didn’t care for the idea of textured cabinets.  The Reclaim is smoother.

My favorite kitchen makeover using this paint was by Jillian @ The Virginia House.  I borrowed an image from her kitchen makeover post below to encourage you to go see more.  You can click on the pic and it will take  you there.

I would love to hear what you think about this paint or if you use it.  The possibilities seem endless.
