Driven by fierce winds, wildfires destroyed 70 homes and 110 other structures in Potter and Randall counties, scorched more than 25,000 acres and caused minor or major damage to an additional 20 homes and 25 other structures, according to statistics released Wednesday by emergency management officials for Amarillo and Potter and Randall counties. Property damage totaled $13 million, officials said. –Amarillo Globe News

That’s the info our newspaper released about the wildfires I told you about on Sunday.

A huge blessing is no one died in the fires.  My husband, who was a firefighter at the fire North of town, credits the sheriff and deputies for the quick action and determination with the evacuation of people from their homes.

18 pets lost their lives at a business that burned.  Beloved pets that were boarded and unable to be rescued during the fire.  Many many pets were rescued.  You can read a story about the kennel here.

Years ago I worked with a lady whose son lost his home in the fires.  His wife has started a blog that is very emotional and touching.  There are a few explicit words in her posts, but it really gives you insight and I hung on every word.  Her blog is called My Way Through The Ashes.  You can read it here.

Here is a one of the photos from her blog of her home.

My heart goes out to those that were effected by the fires.
