Rustic Garden Sign

004

My mom had a lake house that she transformed from absolutely nothing to a small oasis in the arid plains of Texas.  It is a feat let me tell you.  Someday I will scan some photos and share them with you.  So when my mom died 10 years ago, one of the things I really wanted was her rustic garden sign that a friend made for her.

The wood was starting to blend with the fence.

001

So I used some Miniwax Walnut gel stain to darken it up and make it stand out better.   I just painted it on and rubbed it off.  That old weathered wood soaked it up.

005

I hung some garden tools on the hooks.

005

006

By now you are all starting to believe me when I said I was going to put a #2 on everything in my house.  This one is removable.  I found some vinyl stickers at Walmart.  I just spray painted it green.

These hooks are so cool.  Old nails and twisted metal.

007

011

The letters were carved into the wood.  Last year I added the light green paint to make the letters pop.

One more fun thing on my fence is an old rusty shovel.  I like old and rusty.

Patio Light Makeover

028

I am trying to work on my back patio, but the weather just won’t cooperate.  It is either raining and cold or the wind is blowing 40 to 50 mph.  I live in a very windy part of Texas, but it has been ridiculous.  Despite the wind gusts,  it was time to give my light a makeover.

Here is what it looked like before.  Not a  horrible hanging light, but it is not anything special either.

051

052

Do you see the yucky spider webs stuck on the wire frame and the nasty dirt on the bulb?  The things you find when you look inside!  I cleaned it off using an air compressor.  I am wondering if a can of air that cleans computers would do the same thing.

005

I had this great idea to stamp whimsical numbers on the glass and paint the light fixture with Oil Rubbed Bronze Paint.  The painting worked.  The stamping did not.  : (

020

I get my ORB paint at Walmart.  I think it is about $3 a can.

027

The stamping didn’t work out for 2 reasons.  One reason is sometimes stupidity overcomes me and the 2nd reason is the ink didn’t stay on the glass as well as I wanted it to.

These clear stamps are great because you can see the placement of the stamp and the grid helps you to center the stamp.  The rubber stamp peels and sticks onto the acrylic block over and over again.

007

010

008

They look really good in this photo.  But when lifted to the light it was too transparent and the ink wasn’t solid.  It’s too bad because I love the size and shape of the numbers.  And now for the stupidity part….. I stamped them all upside down.  The glass goes the other way in the light fixture.  Duh!!!

011

So my husband sprayed some of  this on it and it came right off.  He says there is no match for B-12 Chemtool.

015

I started over and decided to use stencils and my enamel glass paint so it would be more solid.  The numbers are kinda boring and smaller, but it still works.

016

017

018

And they looked like this.

019

So smaller and not as cute, but paint is solid and they are not upside down.

Here it is from all angles.

Skinny for Summer Tip

Hello.  My name is Tracy and I am addicted to chocolate.  I have a summer vacation planned on a beach in a bathing suit.  I need all the help I can get.  With summer coming up I wanted to share about my favorite treat.

I just had to tell anyone who doesn’t know about Skinny Cow products to try them out.  I have only tried the Chocolate Truffle.   I find them at Walmart.  I am really picky about low fat food, especially ice cream.  These are creamy and so good.  Ok ready for what is almost as good as the taste?  Calories 100; Total Fat 2.5g ; Dietary Fiber 3g

So that fiber content can make you  feel like you are being healthy while eating chocolate!  I think Skinny Cow should pay me in free boxes of chocolate truffle bars for the rest of my life for telling you about them.  Unfortunately, they don’t even know how much I love them.

Looks yummy huh?  Let me know if you love them as much as I do.  Oh and a little piece of advice.  Get them at the end of your shopping and put them in the freezer as soon as you can.  If they get melty and then put back in the freezer they lose their creaminess.

Wooden Treasures

I found an old croquet ball in a thrift/antique store Friday.  I couldn’t resist it.  I didn’t know what the heck I was going to do with a wooden ball, but I knew I would come up with a plan.

034

I had a metal candle stick holder I had painted years ago.  The ball fit perfectly and it kept it from rolling around.

042

Today when I went plant shopping I found this great bird that looks like carved wood.  It’s not, but who would know to look at it?

037

I also added an old glass cutter.  I like how the paint is rubbing off.  I think it adds a great final touch to it all.

Thanks for stopping by.
